Four Steps for Taking Action:

  1. Find Your Representatives: 
    1. Visit NPCA’s State Resources webpage. 
    2. Select your state and go to the “Congressional Delegation” link to access contact details for your Senators and Representative.
    3. You will also find the number of Peace Corps Volunteers who served from your state!
    4. If you don’t know who your House Rep is, click here and use the “Find Your Representative” tool.
  2. Make The Call:
    1. Identify yourself as a constituent by stating your name and city/town where you live.
    2.  Use the talking points below to express your support for the Peace Corps.
  3. Multiply Your Impact:
    1. Recruit ten (or more) other people to make the same call.
    2. Help us generate thousands of phone messages to Congress!

“I am calling to remind Senator/Representative ______ that Saturday, March 1st is “Peace Corps Day”, marking the anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps in 1961. 

“When they complete their service, tens of thousands of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers serve our local communities in a variety of ways that make our country stronger, safer, and more successful.

“Please take action during the week of February 23rd through March 1st to honor/support the Peace Corps, and the ____volunteers who have served from our state.” 

 

IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE AN EXAMPLE IN YOUR MESSAGE, ASK LAWMAKERS TO DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING (CHOOSE NO MORE THAN TWO)

  • List the Peace Corps as a priority when you submit your personal appropriations request
  • (For House Members only) Make a one-minute speech on the House floor during or soon after Peace Corps week
  • Issue a press statement recognizing the Peace Corps and its volunteers during Peace Corps Week
  • Send a letter to current volunteers from your state/district to thank them for their service
  • Co-sponsor future legislation to support the Peace Corps, including legislation to honor the Peace Corps with a Congressional Gold Medal

FOR CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: A SPECIAL REQUEST FOR SENATOR PADILLA

  • Please ask Senator Padilla to “introduce legislation to honor the Peace Corps in conjunction with America 250 celebrations with a Congressional Gold Medal” (NPCA met with his office on February 21st to make that request)
